On November 11, a group of NCC Fine Art students, accompanied by Professor Bruce Wall, Fine Art Program Coordinator and Thomas Shillea, Director of Art Programs visited the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia, upon an invitation from Andre van de Pute, Dean of Enrollment at PAFA, and two assistants, Melanie Dion and Sara Pottenger.
Northampton Community College has recently established an articulation agreement with PAFA, and this trip was the first opportunity NCC Fine Art students had to interact with students as well as Al Gury, Professor and Chair of Painting at PAFA. A highlight of the trip was the opportunity to draw in the famed Cast Gallery, which includes life-size plaster models of Michelangelo’s “David” and the famed Greek “Nike of Samothrace”.
NCC students were also given a pizza lunch, a full tour of the PAFA art studios, and the PAFA Museum permanent collection in the Frank Furness Building on Broad Street.
Plans are to make this an annual trip for NCC students to PAFA.
