Greg Purdon was born and raised in the Reading area and graduated from Kutztown in 1970 with a fine arts degree. He went on to a successful career as an advertising illustrator in the Philadelphia area for over 25 years. He died of sarcoidosis in 1997 at age 49 while awaiting a lung transplant. Greg was an artist, a windsurfer, a prankster, a cook, a skier, a musician and so much more.

While he loved art, what Greg loved most were his friends, family and giving – of his talent, his humor, his gentleness, and of his time. What he created here on earth is a “magic circle” of people who miss him terribly and who now care for, support, and give to others.

Together this circle of people (including two friends from Kutztown days, Rick Vito and Tom Shillea,  Director of Art Programs at Northampton Community College, have created the Greg Purdon Memorial Scholarship For Excellence in Art – a $1000 tuition payment awarded annually to a graduating Northampton Community College art student who is transferring to Kutztown for art.

The April 8 Benefit Concert will connect so many of Greg’s loves — friends, family, Kutztown, music, and art  — in a way that encourages bright young art talent. A perfect night for friends, family and music lovers to unite and celebrate Greg Purdon’s wonderful life!

Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students, and can be purchased online here buy tickets now, or by phone at 610-683-4092.
