Susan Swanson’s formal academic background includes a BAE in Art Education from the University of Florida, an MS in Education from Cal State Hayward, California, an MA in Visual Arts from Lamar University in Texas, and an MFA from Stephen F. Austin State College in Texas. She also attended the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, California.
Susan has a long career as an educator. She worked in the English Department at the University of Guam for several years after receiving her Master’s degree from Cal State in Education. After raising a family, she enhanced her arts background and obtained two degrees in the visual arts. After obtaining her MFA in Visual Arts in 2004 she
taught Art History and 2-D Design at Austin Community College in Austin, Texas. Recently she has also taught at North Hampton Community College and at the Evergreen Community School.
Since 2004 her professional credits include being selected for the permanent collection of the Dishman Museum in Beaumont, Texas. Her artistic works have been exhibited at a number of juried shows including The Lawndale Art Center in Houston, Texas; at the Texas State Nationals in Nacogdoches, Texas; at the Madison Nationals in Madison, Georgia; at the Empower Art Show in Houston, Texas; at the City Hall Project in Houston, Texas for two consecutive years; at The New Space in New York City; and at The Faculty Art Show in Austin, Texas. She has also served as a judge in the Austin Fine Arts Festival. Recently her computer generated fabric designs have been featured in a variety of publications including the Italian Vanity Fair, In Style Magazine, and Fader Magazine, as well as having been exhibited several seasons at New York City’s Fashion Week.
In her off time Susan enjoys flying. scuba diving in Belize or Palau, snow skiing, or just reading a good book. Her pilot’s license includes commercial, multi-engine, and instrument ratings.
