Kraus Drawing Competition
The Annual drawing competition is open to freshman art students who submit original drawings to be judged by a panel of NCC art program faculty.
This annual freshman drawing competition is supported by the Patrick J.Kraus Endowment Fund, established by the late John “Duke” Kraus, former NCC bookstore manager and his wife, Katherine, in memory of their son, Patrick Kraus, a talented young artist who attended NCC in the 1985-86 academic Year. The drawing competition is open to freshman art students who submit original drawings to be judged by a panel of NCC art program faculty.
The total amount of funds awarded to our students over the past 25 years has now exceeded $50,000.00. Each of the winners receives a financial scholarship for their second year of studies at NCC. The first-place winner receives an $1100 scholarship, The second-place winner receives a $900 scholarship, the third-place winner receives a $600.00 scholarship. The 4th and 5th place winners each receive a $200.00 scholarship.
The winning drawings are announced by Thomas Shillea, The Director of Art Programs during the Kraus Drawing Exhibition held each April in Communications Hall Gallery. The drawings of the first and second place winners become part of the Colleges Permanent collection and are displayed on the Bethlehem Township and Monroe County campuses.
